The newest addition to our bike lock range builds on centuries of innovation. Introducing the Chainlok™ 10 – the wearable chain bike lock, built for comfort, portability, and Diamond level security.

Why Is It Important To Lock Your Bike?

According to the Office of National Statistics, on average 77,313 bikes are reported stolen every year in the UK. This figure doesn’t even include bikes that are stolen but not reported, which estimates for 60-70% of bike thefts.

The best way to make sure your bike doesn’t end up part of a statistic like this one is to make sure you lock your bike securely and effectively at your destination, and when at home. Two factors go into this – the first is making sure you have a secure bike lock that you can rely on. The second is knowing how to lock your bike with the best methods. If you need more info about the best methods to lock your bike, check out our recent article on how to prevent your bike from getting stolen.

Introducing The New Chainlok™ 10

If you’re in need of a lock to protect you from bike theft while remaining portable and practical, the Chainlok™ 10 is a fantastic option for you. Let’s explore the reasons why the Chainlok™ stands out from the pack in terms of practicality and security.

1. Wearability

Whether you’re an urban commuter or keen road cyclist, you’ll know that bag or basket space can be scarce; any amount of space saved is a win. Luckily, the Chainlok™ 10 doesn’t need to be stored in a bag while you ride, it doesn’t even need a holder attached to the frame. Just wrap it around your waist, adjust the strap, and you’re ready to go! This makes it easy to take with you wherever you go, regardless of the type of bike you ride or how much storage space you have available.

The 10mm hardened square alloy steel chain of the Chainlok™ 10 is wrapped up tightly in protective neoprene; this makes for a ride so comfortable that it’s easy to forget you have a Diamond rated bike lock around your waist! It also means that unlike other bike chain locks, the Chainlok™ 10 is kind to your bike frame, protecting it from scratches while locked up.

When you reach your destination, taking this wearable chain bike lock off of your waist is just as seamless as putting it on. The Chainlok™ 10 uses the same lock body as our other wearable bike locks – the Straplok™ 35. This contains a patented dimple key slot system, which operates without the need for turning. Just insert the key, and unlock with the push of a button. This makes the act of locking and unlocking as quick and easy as possible, great for those winter mornings when cold hands make those more fiddly actions difficult.

2. Security

Looking to upgrade your security? As previously hinted at, the Chainlok™ 10 has achieved the highest possible level of certification for pedal bikes; Sold Secure Pedal Cycle Diamond. If you’re not familiar with Sold Secure, check out our recent article which takes a dive into who they are, what they do, and what each of their ratings mean. Here’s a brief summary.

Sold Secure are the British testing and certification body for all security products, including home, motorcycle, and in this case, bicycle security. They use tools and techniques used by thieves to gauge how secure each lock is in real-world situations. Depending on what standard the lock achieves, it can be given a rating of Bronze, Silver, Gold, or Diamond. If you see a product displaying the Sold Secure logo on the packaging or website, you can rest assured that it has been tested to a high standard. At Squire, we proudly display this logo on all products which achieve it, so you know that when we say the Chainlok™ 10 provides a Diamond level of security, we mean it.

But are chain locks effective in comparison to D-locks or cables? Absolutely. The Chainlok™ 10 owes its high-security standard to its 10mm, hardened square alloy steel chain. Not only is this sturdy enough to resist attacks from a high level of tools, the fact that it’s a chain makes it more flexible than a D-lock, making it hard for thieves to grip with their tools if they try to cut through, especially when attached off the ground.

The patented locking mechanism makes it incredibly difficult to pick, so you can rest assured that you won’t find the chain lock unlocked, lying on the floor with your bike missing when you return to it. This lock body also comes with the added benefit of being able to attach two chain locks together end-to-end, which is great for securing at home, and for families with multiple bikes.

To Wrap Things Up…

Whether you’re a commuter who wants a quick and easy method of securing a bike while out and about, a road cyclist looking for a high-security lock that doesn’t require a bag to carry it, or a keen bikepacker who wants to keep their precious bike out of the grasp of thieves without taking up pannier space, the Chainlok™ 10 is a great option for upgrading your security, helping you achieve the best levels of protection for your bike. For added protection, elevate your security by pairing the Chainlok™ 10 with one of our lightweight bike locks.
