We are pleased to announce our support for LIFEbeat, a charity which aims to transform the lives of young people by teaching them the skills they need to navigate the challenges they may face in their lives.
Led by Lucy Sicks, CEO and founder of LIFEbeat and long-time friend of Squire, the registered charity helps to build young people’s self-esteem, emotional literacy, social skills and resilience through creativity and the arts, which are at the heart of everything LIFEbeat do.
Since 2009, LIFEbeat has worked with over 2,500 disadvantaged young people through their summer residential programmes, day programmes and youth leadership initiatives. They have also trained over 1,200 youth workers, creatives, teachers and therapists and more than 1,200 youth workers, creatives, teachers and therapists in mental health and wellbeing.
Often, the young people who benefit from LIFEbeat’s programmes return as youth leaders, to help inspire the next generation of attendees.
The Creative Community Summer Camp
One way LIFEbeat do this is through their annual Creative Community Summer Camp, which brings together young people from disadvantaged communities in London to offer them a safe, supportive environment to share their stories while giving them access to creative personal development workshops.
Through these summer camps, the young people are given the opportunity to express themselves and learn from each other, while giving them a stronger connection to nature and completing fun workshops to teach them new life skills, including theatre improvisation sessions as well as singing and dancing.
The summer camp takes place with the aim of helping to improve the young people’s self-esteem, interpersonal skills and resilience with a goal to improving their mental health and wellbeing.
To ensure the Summer Camp can continue to run and provide the support they need, LIFEbeat recently ran a match funded fundraiser, where we proudly doubled every pound donated to the campaign. We are pleased to share that over £25,000 was raised, which will be used towards transport, art materials and programme leaders for this year’s camp.
LIFEbeat is truly an amazing charity which gives back to young people in so many ways, and encourages them to manage, promote and advocate for their own feelings and emotions.
We are pleased to partner with them and support them in all the incredible work that they do.
