Tool theft affects thousands of people across the UK, with a stolen tool reported every 21 minutes. With more than 25,000 cases of tool theft reported in 2024, and only 1% of tools recovered[i], it has become increasingly important to spotlight the rising issue.
On the Tools reported that tool theft can cost tradespeople approximately £4470 in replacements[ii], excluding other consequences such as work delays and increased insurance premiums. For many, these crimes can result in lost income and significant disruption to their business. The uncertainty can also have a negative effect on mental health, with 39% of tradespeople saying tool theft had a strong impact on their wellbeing[iii].
As we continue to support the trade, we have joined Fix Radio as a Collaborating Partner for its upcoming Tool Theft Conference in partnership with Wickes TradePro. Taking place at Fazeley Studios, Digbeth on the 22nd of October, our ambassadors will be on-hand throughout the day to share best practice and discuss practical security measures with tradespeople by drawing on the company’s 246-year heritage.
The event will bring together tradespeople, manufacturers and insurers to share advice, raise awareness and showcase products and services designed to tackle the tool theft crisis. You will be able to find Squire’s stand on the main conference floor, where attendees will be able to seek guidance on the best padlocks for tools and construction sites.
